Saucony Peregrine 6s Conquer Mt Lofty

When you find heaven in a shoe! That was my first thought when I tried on the Saucony Peregrine 6s. So comfortable with the perfect fit. I couldn’t believe it! Plus, I was in a Kathmandu store and did not expect to find ANY trail runners in there.

Previous Purchases

Ok, for those who don’t know me, I am a little addicted to this stuff but it’s better than drugs, right?? I do have an older pair of trail runners but they’re just not up to snuff. They’re New Balance Trails and I keep them in my car with a pair of socks for spontaneous hikes while I’m out.

Getting serious though, I knew I needed some trail runners that would last a lot longer. I’m confident that my new Peregrine 6’s are those trail runners.

Saucony Peregrine 6

First observations:

  1. Not the prettiest of colours (grey, coral & black)
  2. Incredibly light! Weighing 241 g
  3. Stiff, supportive heel backing
  4. Wicked tred!
  5. Lots of ventilation

After trying them on:

  1. Sooooooo comfy! Heavenly cushioned innersoles (and they apparently rank low on their cushion scale. Crazy!)
  2. Perfect fit all around my ankle
  3. Nice amount of toe room with some to spare
  4. Still super light, hardly know they’re on

First Test Walk

I was camping at Marion Holiday Park in Adelaide so I decided to go for a walk through the park and up the road to the Flagstaff Hotel for some dinner. Shoes felt amazing.

Had a lovely dinner and walked back to camp.

Second Test: Waterfall Gully to Mt Lofty Hike

This hike was new to me and I didn’t know what to expect. One of my friends told me it’s a good challenge and quite steep with a proper path.

I ended up going off onto another trail and going on a little adventure, as I do.

Trying to find another look-out that was meant to be on that trail somewhere but failing to find it I came back down and got back on the Waterfall Gully to Mt Lofty trail. I started to feel some hot spots on my heels, especially my right one so I stopped and rubbed some of that Body Glide stuff on them.

There’s an Adventure Hike which is longer, harder and on natural dirt and rock that goes to Mt Lofty so I’d like to try that one next time. I was on it for a little while on my adventure hehe, but back on the path, I went.

Finally Got To The Top

That climb was HARD! Steep is probably an understatement, but the views up there were worth it.

Even though the weather was great that day, trying to see Adelaide CBD was a bit of an effort, but it’s down there.

After having a delicious lunch at the summit restaurant I took some more happy snaps before descending back down.

Trying to ignore the blisters that had formed on the back of my heels, off I went.

The Descent

As the trail was so steep I actually ended up jogging most of the way down until a noise beside the trail caught my attention…

I stopped and looked up. It was an echidna!

I love echidnas! He was rummaging in the leaves for food all the way down until he was almost on the trail, a couple of meters away from me! Hikers on their way down and up were curious to see what I was taking so many photos of and stopped to take some as well. Funny little guy.

Continued my jog down, down, down and got to the bottom.

What a great little hike! I highly recommend it.

My Thoughts On The Peregrine 6s

A delightful pair of trail runners. I should’ve broken them in more before doing such a hike and then I wouldn’t have got blisters but oh well, I’m not going to hold that against them.

Pros:

  • Lightweight
  • Comfortable
  • Well fitting
  • Trustworthy tred
  • Breathable

Cons:

  • None yet!

Trail Runners Vs Hiking Boots

The big question! In my personal experience, they both have their pros & cons and their different uses.

So, I’m asking you. Readers, what do YOU prefer and why? Add your comments below 🙂
